Busitema University Faculty of Health Sciences Partner with Mbale Municipality to Improve Healthcare Delivery in Mbale Municipality
Busitema University Faculty of Health Sciences has signed a memorandum of understanding with Mbale Municipal council. The Memorandum of understanding was signed by the Vice-chancellor of Busitema University Prof. Mary N. Okwakol and the town clerk of Mbale Municipality Mr. Edward Lwanga. The function was presided over by His worship the Mayor of Mbale Municipality Mr. Mutwalib Zandya. Other people in attendance included the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences Prof. Paul Waako and the Medical Officer of Mbale Municipality Dr. Charles Odongo. The memorandum of understanding is aimed at enhancing institutional cooperation for the advancement of the health wellbeing and social-economic transformation of the people of Mbale Municipality and beyond. The Memorandum of understanding covers the following areas:
Forensic Pathology Services
The two institutions will work to strengthen forensic pathology services in Eastern Uganda and strengthen training and research capacity in the region. The activities will include:
- Joint provision of forensic pathology services
- Sharing of resources for forensic pathology services
- Joint training of staff and students in forensic pathology including continued Medical Education for health professionals
- Jointly take on responsibility of equipping and maintaining the council mortuary
- Sharing of information for the purpose of training, research and service to the community
Environmental Sanitation (Public health)
This specifically covers the areas of:
- Safe collection, storage, treatment and disposal/re-use/recycling of human excreta (feces and urine)
- Management/re-use/recycling of solid wastes (trash or rubbish)
- Drainage and disposal/re-use/recycling of household wastewater (sullage or grey water)
- Drainage of storm water
- Student placements/internship programs in public health facilities to foster learning and strengthen health facilities in Mbale Municipality
At the signing ceremony parties pledged to work closely for the benefit of the people of Mbale.
